Kansas City Dietitian and Gross Disgusting Fat

Gross Disgusting Fat

Just wanted to get your attention.  When one hears the word “fat” a variety of images are conjured up.  Most of these thoughts can be associated with our title today.  Gross, disgusting.

Wonder Dietitian is here to help you think positive thoughts when you hear the word “Fat.”

Good things about fat:

  1. It makes baby’s cheeks kissable.
  2. It makes it so we can absorb beautiful vitamins like A, D, E and K.
  3. Some fats are anti-inflammatory.
  4. Fats make our foods taste good.

Healthy fats should make up about ¼ of our diet.  Healthy fats are found in foods like salmon, walnuts, almonds, avocadoes and olives and olive oil.

When people cut fat out of their diet they typically fill in with carbohydrates.  We have spent a lot of time talking about naked carbohydrates.  (Join PETG today!)

These foods tend to increase triglycerides and blood sugar.

There is one other fat concern to discuss today.

If you are tempted to send lots of warm and fuzzy emails to me today, boasting about how Wonder-ful Wonder Dietitian is then you might cause me to have a FAT-Head.

I have a great idea.  Let’s try it and see what happens.

Luv,

Your skinny-headed WD

Mary Kate Meyer, MS, RDN, LD

Registered Dietitian

Hi, I’m Mary Kate. I love to try new foods and explore new restaurants and coffee shops, and even went on a homemade bagel-making kick this summer! My interest in nutrition started in middle school with my mom adding more veggies to our meals and making them taste interesting and fun, which sparked my interest to help her cook and learn more about how the food we eat impacts us every day. Over the years, I’ve witnessed firsthand the profound impact that proper nutrition and daily fueling can have on overall health. Like many of my clients, I have faced challenges with my own gut health and hormonal changes, so I can relate to the frustrations and fatigue that come with seeking relief. Through personalized care and tailored nutrition, I discovered the keys to my health, and my goal is to help others bring their sense of vitality back!
