There is this amazing little restaurant in a suburb of Chicago  that serves authentic Pre-Hispanic Mexican fare. I didn’t even know what that was, but basically  it means that they don’t use ingredients introduced after the Spanish came to Latin America. I’m not quite ready to start claiming to be an expert on that, but they did serve this amazing drink called fruit water. Not the most clever name, but the drink doesn’t disappoint. My foodie friend, who blogs over at The Crazy House,  and I,  tried to sneak a peek at them making it so we could recreate it on our own. As you might suspect, there is definitely some sugar in it, but not much else.

Recipe ReDux is ushering in the summer season by sharing our favorite beverage recipes. Whether you want to serve it to complement your Pre-Historic Mexican fare, this smooth and slightly sweet homemade drink can put any gas station slushie to shame, and is a cinch to make. Today I’m sharing 3 ways to make this delicious watermelon beverage.

  1. Basic Watermelon Water

2. Watermelon Lime Water

Follow the instructions of the Basic Watermelon Water and add in 8 oz lime juice, or the juice of 2 fresh limes.
